If you went in for a check up with your doctor and you were informed that you may have some gut issues, it is certainly cause for concern. But the good news is that if you take the right steps, you can ensure that you are improving the situation with your gut in a matter of weeks. Here is a look at three changes that you can make today if you want to improve your gut health:
1. Get Up and Exercise
Studies have shown that when you are more active, you are activating a more diverse range of good bacteria in your gut. The problem is that so many of us have jobs where you are sitting down for eight or nine hours a day. It is important to not only get in exercise during the week, but also get up every 45 minutes to an hour for stretching, so you are not completely sedentary.
2. Eat Yogurt
The correct type of probiotics can play a huge role in improving gut health. If you enjoy eating yogurt, we recommend that you add some plain yogurt into your diet. Just make sure that you are avoiding the ones that have a lot of sugar. While the yogurt has good probiotics, processed sugar is not good for your gut. Eating a lot of flavored and overly sweetened yogurts may even have a net negative impact on your health.
3. Add More Fiber
If your diet does not include enough fiber, it can be hard to pass stool. Make sure that you are adding a lot of fiber to your diet through whole grains, lentils, beans and more. Just ensure that you are also drinking enough water. If you increase fiber but do not drink enough water, it is not great for your gut!
